Effective January 1, 2019, Five Stars Recovery Center, Northland Counseling Services, and NorthStar Regional will combine operations to create an integrated organization which will improve continuity of care for the treatment of substance use and mental health disorders. The combined organization will operate under the NorthStar Regional name.
Five Stars Recovery Center (Five Stars) and Northland Counseling Services (Northland) are both established organizations in their fields of treatment. Since its founding in 2000, Five Stars has grown rapidly and emerged as a leader in substance abuse treatment in Chaska and the surrounding communities. A residential treatment facility for Co-Occurring Disorders (COD), an enlarged campus, and an increased need for COD treatment facilities have all contributed to ongoing growth.
Northland is a mental health counseling center that was founded in 2002. Now with over 30 therapists in three locations, Northland provides counseling for children, adolescents and adults, as well as mental health and chemical dependency intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment programs.
The combined organization will continue to operate their existing programs and services in the same locations and with the same key staff members.
“We believe that the integration of our services under one organization will improve our ability to provide the best care for our clients by providing an increased level of services, including psychiatry and psychotherapy,” says Dr. Hal Baumchen, founder and executive director of Northland and one of the owners of NorthStar Regional. Jason Vanderscoff, LADC, who is CEO of Five Stars and of NorthStar Regional, and Tom Winegarden, MD, who is NorthStar Regional’s medical director, are the other two owners of NorthStar Regional.
When two NorthStar Regional facilities currently under construction are completed – a 17-bed women’s residential treatment center in Chaska and a 46-bed men’s residential treatment center in Shakopee – NorthStar Regional will have a combined 183 beds in its system of residential treatment, outpatient with lodging, and sober homes.
NorthStar Regional is a behavioral health organization dedicated to helping people with substance use disorders and mental health counseling needs Move Forward in HopeSM.
