Integrated Alcohol, Drug, and Mental Health Treatment in Minnesota
Since 2015, two Minnesota groups, one treating addiction and one treating mental health, have worked as one system. We share one mission: rebuild lives, and help people get from their lowest point to a life of their own. Today we are one integrated treatment system in Minnesota. Our psychologists, counselors, social workers, and licensed alcohol and drug counselors have worked with thousands of people struggling with substance use disorders. Many of them have been through it themselves.

Care that Moves With You
A Full Continuum of Care
Most treatment fails during transitions, such as between detox and rehab, or between discharge and housing. NorthStar Regional connects those steps in one system. Every stage includes co-occurring mental health care, and at each stage you take on more independence. Clients who complete the entire continuum are with us for a year to 18 months. We adjust the program to fit the person.

Safe drug and alcohol withdrawal with 24-hour nursing at the withdrawal management center in Eden Prairie, for alcohol, opioids, and benzodiazepines.

Looking for Medical Detox Near Minneapolis?
First, rest. Our medical detox program serves Minneapolis and the west metro from Eden Prairie, about 20 minutes from downtown. Detox at NorthStar Regional is co-ed, staffed by nursing 24 hours a day, and it has no rigid schedule. Rest when you need it, eat when you are hungry, take your medication as prescribed, and join an afternoon group if you are up to it.
You get a comprehensive assessment and a plan for what comes next. Medication-assisted treatment, with drugs such as naltrexone and buprenorphine, is an option through our medical partner. A typical stay is about 3 to 7 days. Every level of care is in one system, so most clients move straight from detox into high-intensity residential treatment or outpatient care. There is no wait on a referral.

Step One: You Call
We listen to what you are struggling with, what you need, and where you want to go. Then we walk through your options and find the right starting point for you. From day one, we also help with insurance enrollment, financial assistance, clothing, and essentials.

Step Two: We Pick You Up
An admissions coordinator stays on the line while a carefully vetted driver, most often someone in long-term recovery, picks you up anywhere in the Twin Cities metro. In the vehicle there is water, electrolytes, and a meal on the way, because arriving cared for matters.
What we treat
Addiction Treatment for Every Substance
Drug and alcohol addiction look different in each life. The substance shapes the treatment. It sets the detox plan, the medicines, the therapy, and the timeline.
We treat alcohol addiction and opioid addiction, including fentanyl, heroin, and oxycodone. Meth, cocaine, benzodiazepines, and club drugs are treated too. Medication-assisted treatment options are available through our medical partner. Wherever you or your loved one is starting from, a program is built for it. Our team listens before it plans.
Mental Health Support
We Treat Mental Health Along with Substance Use
Many people who struggle with drugs or alcohol also carry something else. It may be depression, anxiety, trauma, or bipolar disorder. That mix is called a co-occurring disorder, and treating half of it seldom works.
At NorthStar Regional, substance use and mental health can be treated together, in the same program, by the same team, at designated programs.
Mental health care also stands on its own here. Our outpatient clinic in Shakopee is a separate clinic. It offers outpatient mental health treatment, and no established diagnosis is needed to contact us. Come in person, or use telehealth (video or phone sessions).

Our women’s treatment center in Chaska stands on its own. The closest building is more than a mile away.
Women move from residential care into outpatient care with lodging at the Klein Mansion, right next door. The same safety and community stay with them at every stage. Couples can sometimes admit at the same time, to the same system, when space and clinical fit allow. Each gets separate programming.

What to Know Before You Call
Where are NorthStar Regional's treatment centers in Minnesota?
Our treatment centers are spread across the Twin Cities metro. One is in Eden Prairie, two campuses are in Chaska with separate men’s and women’s sites, one is our men’s treatment center in Otsego, and two are in Shakopee. All campuses sit a short drive from one another across Carver, Scott, Hennepin, and Wright counties. Because of that, a change in level of care never means starting over with a new provider.
What does NorthStar Regional treat?
We treat drug and alcohol addiction, including opioids, fentanyl, meth, cocaine, and benzodiazepines. Co-occurring disorders are treated here too. That means a mental health condition, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or trauma, along with substance use. Designated programs include co-occurring care. Our outpatient clinic in Shakopee treats mental health on its own. No established diagnosis is needed to contact us.
Do you offer medical detox near Minneapolis?
Yes. Our medical detox program, known clinically as withdrawal management, serves Minneapolis and the west metro. It runs from our withdrawal management center in Eden Prairie, about 20 minutes from downtown. You get 24/7 nursing care with medical and psychiatric support. You also get a comprehensive assessment and a plan for what comes next. A typical stay is 3 to 7 days.

Coverage depends on your plan, the service, eligibility, and authorization requirements. Our team helps review your benefits and available payment options. Benefits verification is not a guarantee of payment.
What happens when I call?
We start by getting to know you and your situation, so we can find the right level of care for you. Then we arrange your ride. An admissions coordinator stays on the line while a vetted driver picks you up anywhere in the Twin Cities metro. Most of our drivers are in long-term recovery themselves.
What is a full continuum of care?
A full continuum of care means every level of treatment happens within one system. Medical detox lasts about 3 to 7 days. High-intensity residential treatment usually lasts 35 to 50 days, including detox. With low-intensity residential treatment, total care often reaches 85 to 105 days. Next comes intensive outpatient, with or without lodging, or virtual IOP. Relapse prevention adds 6 to 8 months or longer of outpatient care, followed by a sober living pathway. Clients who complete each level of care are with NorthStar Regional for a year to 18 months.
Are men and women treated separately?
Yes, at the residential level. Men’s and women’s programs run on separate campuses, and the women’s campus is fully separate, with the closest building more than a mile away. Couples can sometimes admit at the same time with separate programming, depending on availability and clinical fit, while outpatient groups are co-ed at the right levels of care.
Is NorthStar Regional faith-based?
No. There is no faith requirement at NorthStar Regional. We offer serious clinical care with spiritual openness, so you can choose 12-step, SMART Recovery, or one of many peer-led options. Your higher power is whatever restores you, as you define it.
Is NorthStar Regional the same as NorthStar Behavioral Health?
No. NorthStar Regional is an independent treatment system founded in 2015, with campuses across the Twin Cities metro. Our headquarters are in Shakopee, Minnesota, while NorthStar Behavioral Health is a separate St. Cloud provider. If you’re looking for NorthStar Regional, call (833) 677-4673.
