Introduction
Paid Internships / Practicums at NorthStar Regional
NorthStar Regional (NSR) offers paid internships or practicums that meet requirements for LADC, LPCC, LICSW, and LP licensure. Openings are limited, so apply fast!
Our internships are primarily made up of individual and group therapy experience with clients who have co-occurring substance use and/or mental health disorders. We provide access to a full library of clinical resources, and opportunities for experience across multiple levels of care.
Internships involve client contact and experience in the following areas:
- The 12 core functions and 46 global criteria
- Truly integrated co-occurring disorder treatment
- Facilitating chemical dependency process groups
- Facilitating psychoeducational groups
- Conducting individual sessions
- Completing Comprehensive Assessments
Practicum students seeking mental health training will gain experience through:
- Facilitating mental health groups
- Conducting individual psychotherapy sessions
- Conducting Diagnostic Assessments
Requirements
- Be enrolled at an accredited school and have completed all coursework required by their academic program in order to begin an internship/practicum
- Follow all ethical and professional standards of their applicable boards
- Follow all policies and procedures of NorthStar Regional
- Commit to a regular schedule as agreed upon with their NSR internship supervisor
- Mental health practicum students must be available a minimum of 20 hours/week and one weekend/month
- Alcohol and drug counseling/co-occurring practicum students must be available a minimum of 28 hours/week, including some evening and weekend hours
Supervision / Meetings
- Individual, face-to-face supervision weekly
- Group supervision
- Weekly staffing with a multidisciplinary treatment team
- Clinical Development Seminars
Internship Locations
NSR offers internships at our Chanhassen, Chaska Sugar Creek, Otsego, and Shakopee locations. Your location will depend on your educational program and the license you’re pursuing.
