Overview

Why Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs)?

NorthStar Regional is dedicated to providing integrated co-occurring chemical dependency and mental health care with a high-intensity, multidisciplinary team.

Our intensive co-occurring treatment is an intensive form of substance abuse rehabilitation. Clients will visit our treatment center(s) several days a week for a few hours at a time. Intensive outpatient programs meet on weekdays in the morning and evening. Programs consist of group therapy and individual counseling.

We are committed to supporting and promoting mental health care as a critical part of overall addiction treatment. Individuals who have a substance use disorder, as well as a mental health disorder, are diagnosed as having co-occurring disorders. This is also sometimes called a dual diagnosis. Each client in our co-occurring disorders intensive outpatient program (IOP) will be treated holistically, addressing substance use, mental health, and medical topics at the same time in the same place with the same staff. This approach allows us to achieve the best treatment outcomes.

Clients are expected to attend all groups.  With both daytime and evening options available, group meets for 3 hours on 2 separate days per week and 4 and a half hours once a week.  In addition to group sessions, clients are also required to attend a weekly individual session with their Primary Counselor.  During these weekly sessions, the counselor will review with the client their individual treatment plan, discuss their progress towards discharge, and update their 6 Dimension severity ratings.  Clients need to contact their primary counselor to schedule this weekly appointment.   When a client has decreased their severity rating in Dimensions I – VI to a 1, or at staff recommendation, they will complete the primary portion of their program and move on to aftercare.

In the Aftercare group, clients complete a comprehensive Continuing Care Plan, and are required to attend 2 hours of group per week, for a minimum of 12 sessions before they can complete the entire program.  In addition, clients need to be attending regular recovery support meetings, have a sponsor, and be living out the Continuing Care Plan they initially made, that will continue to evolve along with the client.  Daytime alumni group is on Tuesday. Evening alumni groups are on Friday.  Clients are expected to utilize the group and support systems to address common sober living situations and complete all required assignments.
