Cocaine Addiction Treatment in Minnesota
Cocaine’s high is strong and short, and that mix is the trap NorthStar Regional’s cocaine addiction treatment in Minnesota is built to break. We treat powder and crack cocaine across the Twin Cities metro, with care built around the binge-crash cycle. Stabilization handles the crash with rest, food, and clinical support, then residential structure interrupts the pattern. The anxiety and depression of stimulant use are treated in the same plan from day one. We accept Medical Assistance (Medicaid) and most major insurers, and cocaine addiction is a medical condition, not a character flaw.

Understanding cocaine addiction
Why Cocaine Addiction Is So Hard to Stop Alone
Cocaine’s high is strong and short, and that mix is the trap. The crash comes within the hour, and the fastest relief from the crash is more cocaine. That is how one evening becomes a binge, a weekend habit becomes a weekly emergency, and a paycheck is gone in a night. Between binges, many people get by well enough that they can deny the problem, even to themselves.
Two facts make the case for treatment. First, cocaine cravings are set off by cues, and they persist. They can hit people weeks after stopping, which is why quitting without structure so often fails. Second, fentanyl contamination has made cocaine use dangerous in a new way. The supply cannot be trusted. What used to be “just a party habit” now carries an overdose risk it never did before. Cocaine addiction is a medical condition, not a character flaw, and it responds to treatment.
What It Looks Like
Signs of a Cocaine Problem
Because cocaine hides between binges, the pattern matters more than the frequency.
You Can't Stop Once You Start
Once it starts, it doesn’t stop until the supply or the money does. Loss of control within the session is the defining sign.
The Money Is Gone Again
Cocaine is expensive, and a binge doesn’t stick to a budget. Drained accounts and unexplained borrowing usually show up before anything else.
The Crash Days
The day or two after: exhaustion, bleak mood, irritability, and a nose that runs. The crash is withdrawal, even when nobody calls it that.
It's Not Fun Anymore, and It's Still Happening
The high got shorter, the anxiety got longer, and you keep doing it anyway. Continuing even though it gives you less and less is a sign of dependence.
Heart-Racing Scares
Chest pounding, panic at 3am, a moment you wondered if you should call someone. Cocaine is hard on the heart, and those scares deserve medical attention.
The Company Changed
Your life has reorganized around people who use and the hours when using happens. When your schedule bends around a substance, the substance has taken control.
You don’t need to check every box, and you don’t need to diagnose yourself. If several of these sound familiar, a comprehensive assessment gives you a clear answer in about an hour. Reading this for someone you love? Start with our guide for parents or our guide for spouses and partners.
Treating Cocaine Use, Anxiety, and Depression Together
Stimulants and mood disorders feed each other. Cocaine creates anxiety and crashes into depression, and plenty of use started as self-medication for both. Seeing the whole cycle is what makes treatment last, and at NorthStar Regional it is treated as one plan, by one team.
For Addiction
Every substance we treat is explained on its own page, from the first assessment through sober living.
For Mental Health
At designated NorthStar Regional programs, these conditions are treated together with addiction as co-occurring care, in one plan. Standalone mental health treatment, no substance use diagnosis needed, is available through our outpatient clinic in Shakopee.
How We Treat It
Our Cocaine Addiction Treatment Program
Cocaine addiction treatment at NorthStar Regional starts with a comprehensive assessment. It covers your use pattern, the crash, your heart history, and any mental health conditions that come with it. Stabilization handles the crash with rest, food, and clinical support. From there, most clients enter high-intensity residential treatment, where the day’s structure does what willpower could not. It breaks the loop long enough for the real work to start.
Treatment here is built around how stimulants work. CBT helps you spot the cues that set off a craving and the thinking that follows. Daily routines teach your brain to find reward in ordinary life again, and DBT-informed skills get you through the restless early weeks. When trauma is part of the story, we treat it too, and family therapy starts rebuilding the trust the binges used up. We treat co-occurring anxiety and depression from day one rather than waiting them out. As stability builds, care steps down through outpatient treatment, relapse prevention, and sober living, all inside one system.
Am I ready?
Signs You're Ready for Cocaine Addiction Treatment
With cocaine, the decision has to be made on the clear days between binges. Here is how to tell you are ready.
The Morning-After Clarity
The day after a binge, you can see it plainly. That clarity is real, but it just doesn’t last until the weekend. Treatment is how you act on it before it fades.
The Promises Have a Pattern
Never again, then again. If your own word hasn’t been enough to stop it, that’s the condition, not your character, and it’s what structure is for.
You'd Never Say It Out Loud
Plenty of people call us about “a friend.” That works too. One conversation, no obligation, and the assessment sorts what’s actually needed.
Here is how admissions works, and the assessment that turns “maybe” into a plan.

Who's behind the work
About NorthStar Regional
NorthStar Regional is Minnesota’s treatment system built around access: alcohol and drug treatment centers and mental health care across multiple Twin Cities metro locations. Founded in 2015, we provide one connected continuum: detox (withdrawal management), residential, outpatient, mental health, and a sober housing pathway. Separate men’s and women’s campuses, co-occurring care at designated programs, and no faith requirement set us apart. We accept Medical Assistance (Medicaid) and most major insurers, and if you are uninsured, our admissions team helps you through enrollment. A person can walk in with nothing and leave with everything they need to build a life.
Paying for Care
Insurance and Payment Options
Our team helps review your benefits and handles the paperwork with you. If you have no insurance, we help walk you through enrolling for benefits. County case managers, probation officers, hospitals, and crisis teams send clients to us because, in their words, we just get it done.
Insurance and State Funding
Commercial plans, Medical Assistance (Medicaid), county placements, and private pay. We verify benefits and handle the paperwork with you.
We Are Here to Help
We help review your benefits, find your right starting point, and schedule you for the same day or the next whenever possible. Then we pick you up anywhere in the Twin Cities metro.
How Admission Works
What Happens From Your First Call to Your First Night
You did the hard part when you picked up the phone. Here is exactly what happens next, so nothing about day one is a mystery.
You Call and a Real Person Answers
A real person answers, usually within seconds, and asks one short question: substance use, or mental health? There is no phone tree, and you don’t have to tell your life story. We ask only what we need and handle the rest.
We Help with the Details
Our team helps review your benefits, and a short screening covers withdrawal risk, medical needs, and mental health, so you land at the right level of care. Then we schedule you, same day or next day whenever possible.
We Pick You Up
You get reminder calls and texts. Before pickup, your admissions coordinator and your driver call you together, so you know the name, the car, and the timing before it’s in your driveway. In the car: water, Gatorade, snacks, and a bagged lunch. Your driver, most often someone in long-term recovery, helps with your bags.
A Real Person Meets You When You Arrive
Your driver walks you inside and hands you off by name to the team member waiting for you. Your intake team completes your application with you. If you’re hungry, there’s a meal waiting. Treatment starts, and you never carried the logistics.
“The client has done the hard work by picking up the phone. We will carry them the rest of the way.”

Questions we hear every day
Common Questions About Cocaine Treatment
Do you treat crack cocaine addiction?
Yes, powder and crack alike. They are the same drug at different speeds, the condition is the same, and nobody at NorthStar Regional treats you differently based on which form you used.
Is cocaine withdrawal dangerous?
Rarely in a medical sense, but the crash is real. Expect exhaustion, depression, and heavy cravings for days. We steady you with rest and clinical support. We also check your heart history, because cocaine is hard on the heart.
Why do I relapse weeks after quitting?
Cocaine cravings are triggered by cues. A payday, a song, or a street corner can set them off long after the drug is gone. That is how the brain works, not weakness, and it is exactly what relapse prevention training is built to handle.
I only use on weekends. Is that addiction?
Frequency matters less than control. If it doesn’t stop once it starts, and if the money and the crash days keep growing, the pattern counts regardless of how often it happens. An assessment answers the question in about an hour.
What about fentanyl in cocaine?
It is a real and current danger. Contaminated cocaine is now a common cause of overdose in people who never sought opioids. If you are going to be around cocaine at all, carry naloxone. Better yet, call us so the question no longer applies.
Does insurance cover cocaine treatment?
Coverage depends on your plan, the service, eligibility, and authorization requirements. Our team helps review your benefits and available payment options. Benefits verification is not a guarantee of payment.
