Rehabs That Take Medicaid in Minnesota

NorthStar Regional is one of the rehabs that take Medicaid in Minnesota, and most of our clients are covered by Medical Assistance. Serving them is the mission. We also accept most major insurers, the Behavioral Health Fund for eligible uninsured clients, and private pay. Our admissions team helps review your benefits and payment options on the first call; coverage depends on your plan, the service, and authorization, so verification is a starting point rather than a guarantee of payment. Checking commits you to nothing, so call and get a real answer before anyone says yes.

The answer

Medicaid, Medical Assistance, and Most Major Insurance Accepted Here

Some treatment centers quietly turn away people on Medicaid, which makes it feel like treatment is closed to you. NorthStar Regional does the opposite. Most of our clients are covered by Medical Assistance, and serving them isn’t charity or a quota. It’s the mission. We also accept most major commercial insurers, Minnesota’s public funding programs, and private pay. If you reach out to us, you are very likely covered.

We don’t leave coverage vague, either. Our team helps review your benefits and tells you where you stand: what’s covered at each level of care, what you might owe out of pocket, and what financial assistance can close any gap. You decide with real numbers, not guesses.

Ways to Pay for Treatment

Most of our clients

Medicaid / Medical Assistance

Minnesota’s Medicaid program covers addiction and mental health treatment at NorthStar, and it covers the large majority of the people we serve. If you have an MA card, or think you might qualify for one, you’re in the right place. We help with enrollment from day one.

Through work or family

Commercial Insurance

We’re in-network with most major insurers. Plans differ on details like copays and covered days. We verify those on your first call, so you know what your plan actually covers.

Behavioral Health Fund and Public Funding

Minnesota’s Behavioral Health Fund may cover eligible substance use services for people with no coverage and limited means. Our team can help you apply.

When you’d rather keep it simple

Private Pay

Paying directly is always available, and some families prefer it. We’ll be straightforward about costs up front so there are no surprises.

How verification works

Verify Your Benefits Before You Decide

Verification isn’t a form you fill out and wait on. We do it together, on the phone, in minutes.

Minutes 1 to 5

You Call and We Run It Live

Give us your insurance information, or tell us you don’t have any. Our team helps review your benefits.

You Get the Real Answer

What’s covered, at which level of care, and what if anything you’d owe. If the Behavioral Health Fund is your route, we screen you for it right then.

Zero pressure

You Decide When You're Ready

Verifying commits you to nothing. Many families check coverage days before anyone says yes to treatment. When the yes comes, the answer is already waiting.

What's actually covered

Coverage From Detox Through Aftercare

Coverage at NorthStar Regional is not tied to one program. Based on your plan and your assessment, covered care can run from detox to aftercare. That means medical detox with 24/7 nursing, high-intensity residential treatment on separate men’s and women’s campuses, and low-intensity residential treatment. It also means intensive outpatient, in person or by telehealth. Outpatient care and the mental health treatment that runs through all of it are covered too.

Your comprehensive assessment matches you to the right level of care, and your coverage follows you there. Because it is one system, moving between levels doesn’t mean starting the paperwork over. Our team helps review your benefits, and that review moves with you.

Questions we hear every day

Common Questions About Coverage

Yes. Medicaid (called Medical Assistance in Minnesota) covers most of our clients. Serving people on Medicaid is core to our mission, not a rare case. If you’re searching for rehabs that take Medicaid in Minnesota, you’ve found one built for you.

We’re in-network with most major insurers. The fastest way to know exactly what your plan covers is to call. Our team helps review your benefits before you commit to anything.

You may still be able to get treatment covered. Our admissions team will ask a few basic questions about your finances to see if you qualify for Minnesota’s Behavioral Health Fund or Medical Assistance (Medicaid). If you do, they’ll walk you through signing up, and our intake team will help you complete the form when you arrive.

It depends on your plan. Our team can help you review your benefits and go over what’s covered at each level of care, so you have a clear idea of costs before you decide. If you need help paying, we can connect you with financial assistance from the start. We aim to be upfront about costs so you know what to expect.

Yes. Addiction and mental health care are covered together as part of treatment. That includes the co-occurring care at designated NorthStar Regional programs. It also includes outpatient mental health on its own at our outpatient clinic in Shakopee.

Yes. You can call with questions anytime, even if you’re not sure you’re ready. Checking your benefits doesn’t commit you to anything. When you are ready, you’ll already have a good sense of what your plan covers.
