Our Commitment to Accessibility

NorthStar Regional is committed to making our website usable by everyone, including people with disabilities. We believe that people seeking information about care and support deserve equal access to it, regardless of ability or the technology they use.

We work to improve the accessibility and usability of northstarregional.com (the “Site”) on an ongoing basis, and we welcome feedback that helps us do better.

Conformance Standard

Our goal is for the Site to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG 2.2 is the current W3C Recommendation and builds on WCAG 2.0 and 2.1.

WCAG is organized around four principles. Content must be:

  • Perceivable – information is presented in ways all users can perceive, such as text alternatives for images and captions for video.
  • Operable – every function works with a keyboard and users have enough time to read and interact.
  • Understandable – text is readable, pages behave predictably, and forms help users avoid and correct mistakes.
  • Robust – content works reliably with current and future browsers and assistive technologies.

We consider these guidelines when designing, building and updating the Site. We also aim to support the goals of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Measures We Take

NorthStar Regional takes the following steps to support accessibility:

  • Including accessibility as part of our website design, development and content process.
  • Testing pages with automated tools and manual checks, including keyboard-only navigation and screen reader testing.
  • Reviewing new pages, forms and features for accessibility before they are published.
  • Training staff and vendors who edit the Site on accessible content practices.
  • Asking third-party vendors to provide accessible products and services where possible.
  • Reviewing the Site periodically and correcting issues as we find them.

Accessibility Features

The Site is built to include features such as:

  • Text alternatives (alt text) for meaningful images.
  • A logical heading structure and clear page titles.
  • Full keyboard access to menus, links, buttons and forms, with a visible focus indicator.
  • Focus that is not hidden behind sticky headers, banners or pop-ups.
  • Color contrast that meets WCAG AA ratios, and information that is never conveyed by color alone.
  • Text that can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or function.
  • Form fields with clear labels, instructions and error messages.
  • Clickable targets large enough to select easily (at least 24 by 24 CSS pixels, or with enough spacing).
  • Alternatives to dragging, so any drag action can also be done with a single tap or click.
  • Help and contact options that appear in the same place on every page.
  • Forms that do not ask you to re-enter information you already provided in the same process.
  • Login or verification steps that do not rely on memory tests or puzzles alone.
  • Captions or transcripts for video and audio content.
  • A “skip to main content” link at the top of each page.

Compatibility

The Site is designed to work with the current versions of major browsers, including Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge, on desktop and mobile devices. It is also designed to work with common assistive technologies, including:

  • Screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver and TalkBack.
  • Screen magnification software and browser zoom.
  • Speech recognition software.
  • Keyboard-only and switch navigation.

The Site relies on HTML, CSS, JavaScript and WAI-ARIA to work with your browser and any assistive technology you use. Older browsers or assistive technologies may not display every page correctly.

Known Limitations and Third-Party Content

We work hard to make the whole Site accessible, but some content may not yet fully meet WCAG 2.2 AA. This may include:

  • Older documents – some PDFs or files published before this policy may not be fully accessible. We will provide them in an accessible format on request.
  • Third-party content – the Site may include tools or content from other providers, such as embedded maps, videos, insurance verification forms, chat tools, scheduling tools or social media feeds. We do not control these services, but we choose accessible vendors where we can and share accessibility issues with them.
  • Links to other websites – this policy applies only to the Site. Other websites we link to have their own accessibility practices.

If any content is hard to use, please contact us. We will work with you to provide the information another way.
