Men's treatment center, Scott County
Men's Treatment Center in Shakopee, Minnesota
NorthStar Regional’s Shakopee treatment center for men is a residential building on a residential street, not a hospital wing. Men live here for about 35 to 50 days of residential treatment, with substance use and mental health treated in one plan. The campus serves Prior Lake, Savage, Chaska, and the southwest metro, about 30 minutes from Minneapolis. Our outpatient clinic sits minutes away, so men step down without changing providers or communities. We accept Medical Assistance (Medicaid) and most major insurers, and the hard part is not the first 40 days, but the 400 after.

Location overview
Substance Use and Mental Health Treatment by NorthStar Regional
The men who come here are addicted to alcohol or other drugs, and almost every one of them is carrying something else too: depression, anxiety, trauma, the symptoms and conditions that made the substance feel necessary. So this location treats co-occurring disorders as the default: substance use disorders and mental health care in one plan, delivered by licensed alcohol and drug counselors and a mental health professional assigned to the campus.
What clients notice first, though, is the feel. You walk into a building that works like a home: shared meals, a schedule that makes sense, a community of men who know exactly how hard the first week is. You’ll feel heard here, and you’ll feel comfortable enough to focus on uncomfortable work, because that’s what a supportive environment is actually for. Wellness means mind and body recover together, and the substance stops being the thing in control.

What Runs at Our Men's Treatment Center in Shakopee
One program lives here, men’s residential treatment, and everything around it is set up so that program holds: the setting, the structure, and the connected steps before and after.
About 35 to 50 days
Men's Residential Treatment
Live-in treatment at full clinical intensity: primary groups and individual therapy in the mornings, education and skills work in the afternoons, and peer meetings in the evenings, none required. Groups run Monday through Friday, with community and recovery activities through the weekend.
Why the setting matters
A Neighborhood, Not an Institution
Recovery has to work in the real world, so it helps to practice it there: an ordinary street, ordinary routines, and the daily proof that a sober life can feel normal. This campus looks like the life you are going back to.
What comes before and after?
Detox First When It's Needed
Withdrawal management runs at our withdrawal management center in Eden Prairie, and many men start there. Afterward, the journey continues here, then steps down through outpatient care, relapse prevention, and sober living inside the same system.
The long game, close by
From Residential to Outpatient Treatment in Shakopee, MN
This is the only NorthStar city where the next level of care is in the same town: our outpatient clinic in Shakopee offers intensive outpatient programs, standard outpatient care, and relapse prevention, minutes away. Men finish residential treatment here and step down without changing providers, charts, or communities, and a sober housing pathway through our partner keeps the recovery journey moving after that.
That build matters, because the hardest part of rebuilding life after addiction isn’t the first 40 days; it’s the 400 after. Staying in one system, with one team and options at every level, is how people ensure the work holds.

Paying for Care
Insurance and Payment Options
Our team helps review your benefits and handles the paperwork with you. If you have no insurance, we help walk you through enrolling for benefits. County case managers, probation officers, hospitals, and crisis teams send clients to us because, in their words, we just get it done.
Insurance and State Funding
Commercial plans, Medical Assistance (Medicaid), county placements, and private pay. We verify benefits and handle the paperwork with you.
We Are Here to Help
We help review your benefits, find your right starting point, and schedule you for the same day or the next whenever possible. Then we pick you up anywhere in the Twin Cities metro.
Our Team
Meet the People Behind Your Care
The people guiding your care carry more than 80 combined years in this field, and some of them found their own way up through treatment. They have seen everything and judge none of it. Most of all, they do what they say they will do, and they care about your recovery.
How Admission Works
How Admissions Works: Two Steps
However you got here, you are in the right place.
1
Step One: You Call
We listen to what you are struggling with, what you need, and where you want to go. Then we walk through your options and find the right starting point for you. From day one, we also help with insurance enrollment, financial assistance, clothing, and essentials.
2
Step Two: We Pick You Up
An admissions coordinator stays on the line while a carefully vetted driver, most often someone in long-term recovery, picks you up anywhere in the Twin Cities metro. In the vehicle there is water, electrolytes, and a meal on the way, because arriving cared for matters.

Questions we hear every day
Common Questions About Our Treatment Center
Two NorthStar locations share the city: this men’s residential treatment center on Lincoln Street, and our outpatient clinic in Shakopee on Marschall Road, home to intensive outpatient programs and our freestanding mental health clinic.
What is NorthStar Regional Shakopee?
Two NorthStar locations share the city: this men’s residential treatment center on Lincoln Street, and our outpatient clinic in Shakopee on Marschall Road, home to intensive outpatient programs and our freestanding mental health clinic.
What is the difference between residential and inpatient treatment?
In practice the words overlap: both mean living at the facility with structure and round-the-clock support. What matters is the fit; your comprehensive assessment matches the level of care to your needs, and we offer every level in one system.
How long does residential treatment last?
Typically 35 to 50 days including withdrawal management, then most men step down to outpatient treatment nearby. The full journey through the continuum runs a year to 18 months for those who take it all the way.
Why do people return to use after rehab?
Usually because treatment ended and nothing replaced it. That’s why the step-down path here is a few minutes away instead of a referral across town, and why relapse prevention and sober housing come built in.
Will my insurance cover treatment here?
Most clients use insurance. We accept Medicaid (Medical Assistance), most major insurers, state public funding, county placements, and private pay. Our team helps review your benefits, and we handle the paperwork with you before anything else happens. Benefits verification is not a guarantee of payment.
What should I bring?
Yourself. Clothing and essentials are handled if you arrive without them, your medications come in their original bottles, and everything else can wait. Come as you are.
