Referral Partnerships: One Call to Place Your Client

NorthStar Regional works with the professionals who place clients: corrections, county case managers, crisis teams, and hospital discharge planners. To refer a client, one call reaches a live person who checks open beds across our campuses. Our team helps review benefits, including Medical Assistance and the Behavioral Health Fund, and we handle transport ourselves. Court and county paperwork comes back without chasing, and clinical details move by phone through the proper release process. One continuum sits behind every referral, from detox (withdrawal management) to a sober housing pathway, with no new referral as care changes.

How a referral works

How a Referral Works: Three Steps

1. Call or Send the Form

A real person answers, checks bed availability across our campuses, and takes the referral on the spot. No client details through the website. We exchange those by phone through the proper release process.

2. We Verify and Screen

Our team helps review your client’s benefits, whether that is insurance, Medical Assistance, or the Behavioral Health Fund. We also do a short screening for withdrawal risk, medical needs, and mental health. That way your client lands at the right level of care.

3. We Come Get Them

Same day or next day whenever we can. Our driver, most often someone in long-term recovery, handles the pickup. Your paperwork comes back to you when it is needed.

Who we partner with

Who We Work With

Different referral sources need different things from a treatment system. Here is what each gets from ours.

Corrections & courts

Probation, Drug Courts, and Sentencing Alternatives

When a court or probation officer needs a substance use disorder evaluation, a comprehensive assessment is the visit they mean. We complete it and recommend the level of care. Then we route the paperwork to the court, county worker, or probation officer who needs it. Compliance reports stay current, so you always know your client’s status. How comprehensive assessments work

County & crisis teams

Case Managers and Mobile Crisis

County case managers and crisis teams place clients with us each week. Acute psychiatric emergencies belong in emergency care first (911, the nearest ER, or 988). We say so plainly. Once a client is stable, we are the step after the emergency: detox, residential, or outpatient. County placements and Behavioral Health Fund coverage are handled at intake. Compare all levels of care

Hospitals & psych units

Discharge Planners and Medical Teams

For step-downs from medical stays and psychiatric units, we arrange the hand-off so discharge does not become a gap. Records are exchanged through the proper release process, and medication continuity is arranged with our medical partner. We also provide transport from your lobby to our door. Hospitals refer patients to us daily, and from the moment they arrive, they are our clients. How admissions works

The Whole Continuum Behind Every Referral

Medical detox through sober living in one system means no new referral each time care steps up or down. Co-occurring mental health care runs through each program, so the dual-diagnosis client you are placing is just who we built this for.

The Referral Partner Form

Send your contact information and the kind of placement you are working on, and our admissions team will call you back to take it from there. For anything urgent, the phone is faster: (833) 677-4673.

Please do not include client names, dates of birth, or any protected health information in this form. We exchange clinical details by phone, through the proper release-of-information process.

Questions partners ask

Common Questions About Referral Partnerships

We work to admit referred clients as quickly as possible. While you’re on the line, we screen for withdrawal risk and medical needs, arrange transportation, and help review the client’s benefits. That way, paperwork doesn’t hold up admission while the client is ready to start.

Call (833) 677-4673 and ask; admissions can tell you what is open across all our campuses in real time.

Yes. If a court, county, or probation officer asks for a substance use disorder evaluation, our comprehensive assessment is the appointment you need. We complete the assessment and send the paperwork to the county worker, court, or employer who needs it.

Never share protected client information through the website form. Use the form for your contact details only. Our team will call you to exchange clinical details through the proper release-of-information process.

NorthStar Regional is in-network with most major insurers. We take Medical Assistance and Minnesota’s Behavioral Health Fund. Clients with no insurance get help signing up for benefits at intake. We also take county placements and private pay. Our team helps review your benefits.

Acute psychiatric emergencies belong in emergency care first: 911, the nearest ER, or the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Once a client is stable, we are the step after the emergency. Crisis teams place clients with us at that point each week.

Partners can refer into all of our levels of care: medical detox, high-intensity residential treatment, low-intensity residential treatment, intensive outpatient with or without lodging, virtual IOP, outpatient mental health, relapse prevention, and sober living. Partners can also refer clients for a comprehensive assessment by itself.
